Ideas for Sprucing Up the Bathroom
So now it's the bathroom's time, right?
You've remodeled the rest of the house, and now you've decided
that in order to complete the home's new, updated look,
you have to update the bathroom as well. If that's you,
then this time, do it right. The good news is that there
are so many choices available for your bathroom that you
can design a truly breathtaking new look if you so choose.
There is a near-infinite variety in tubs, shower enclosures,
tiles, lighting options, sinks 7 faucets, and more. And
what's more, you can mix or match according to your own
tastes. So let's take a brief look at what a redesign of
your bathroom might entail.
The first thing is figuring out what you
want the bathroom to look like. What style do you have in
mind? Should it be a modern design, with glistening chrome
fixtures along with a Jacuzzi? Perhaps you want something
a bit old fashioned, with a country style that features
oak cabinets. Much of this might depend on what the rest
of your house looks like.
You also need to think about the current
size of your bathroom, as well as its shape. You want items
and accessories that will not overcrowd the bathroom if
it's small. On the other hand, if the bathroom is quite
large, you won't want to include items that get lost in
there; instead you'll want large and ornate. For this reason,
you might have to consider switching your vanity, cabinets,
light fixtures, etc.
Many people underestimate the significance
of lighting to the bathroom. You want to include fixtures
that complement the architecture of the bathroom: clean
lines on your fixtures for a bathroom with clean lines,
for example.
Next, let's look at the floor. If you have
linoleum flooring, or even worse, carpet, get rid of them.
The better choice is ceramic tile, which you can buy at
Home Depot or other home-improvement store. Or if the prices
there don't impress you, can often find good tile available
on auction websites such as eBay, or on classified ad sites
like CraigsList. Then of course, there is the Wal-Mart option.
You cannot truly transform the way your
bathroom looks without doing something to update the bathtub.
For many, this will mean replacing the tub altogether. If
you have a large bathroom, you might even consider replacing
the tub with a Jacuzzi tub. This luxurious item should drop
directly into your tub space fairly easily. And even if
it takes a little effort, think of how much you'll appreciate
it when you're relaxing in its soothing jets at the end
of a hard day's work! A Jacuzzi is much more affordable
than you might think, since prices have come down dramatically
in recent years. And it adds an impressive look to the bathroom
that will "wow" your visitors.
Another good way to totally change the look
of your bathroom is to put in new cabinets. Shop around
for this project, and as you're considering cabinets, remember
that the important factors are the size and storage space.
It's good to have a large amount of space underneath the
ca binet, and of course you'll want at least two or three
drawers. You can usually find cabinets with marble, lime-stone
or granite tops. Plus there are cabinets with solid top
that holds a drop-in sink, while others have a top on which
a standalone sink can rest. Choose the one you think goes
best with your bathroom decor.
Finally, don't forget the faucets. A bathroom
truly only looks as new as the sink and tub hardware.
